Grounded in Gratitude

grateful

grāt′fəl

adjective

  1. Appreciative of benefits received; thankful.

  2. Expressing gratitude.

  3. Affording pleasure or comfort; agreeable.

Grateful living is a way of life which asks us to notice all that is already present and abundant – from the tiniest things of beauty to the grandest of our blessings – and in so doing, to take nothing for granted. We can learn to focus our attention on, and acknowledge, that life is a gift. Even in the most challenging times, living gratefully makes us aware of, and available to the opportunities that are always available; opportunities to learn and grow, and to extend ourselves with care and compassion to others.

Train yourself never to put off the word or action for the expression of gratitude.” – Albert Schweitzer

Gratitude is one of the most medicinal emotions we can feel. It elevates our moods and fills us with joy.”— Sara Avant Stover

Research shows us that gratitude can be healthy. Gratitude can help your immune response. Reducing inflammation, lowering blood pressure, improving sleep, and lowering stress are all wins for a healthy immune response. Gratitude also helps people feel happier and experience positive emotions. Gratitude is good for your emotional health: it lowers cortisol, a stress hormone in your body. Practicing regular gratitude has also been shown to protect against developing depression in the future.

“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.”— William Arthur Ward
